The first day of the annual FPW was met with strong-willed statements by designers who took the runway. Every collection possessed a message that needed awareness, and with each statement left an impression onto the audience. We were swept away by the determination and effort that each designer put into the sensitive message they were trying to spread. Maheen Khan’s Gulabo imprinted awareness about water and the #MeinBhi movement, FnK Asia by Huma Adnan showcased the reality of Persian refugees in Pakistan, to Amir Adnan’s sign language and finally, Gogi by Hassan Riaz on the struggles of child abuse and slavery. While the messages resonated, designers such as Yasmeen Jiwa and Farah Talib Aziz exuded glamor and femininity in their collections, allowing us to feel excited about the summer months and the bright colors it brings. Scroll down to check out the highlights!
Amir Adnan
In a historic and meaningful showcase, Amir Adnan had hearing impaired models walk the ramp adorned in his collection “Beast”, which featured vintage sherwani’s made from existing materials. The walk was strong as well as their will and determination to spread the importance and awareness of sign language. A collection filled with poignant and everlasting promise!
Farah Talib Aziz
The finale that stole every spring girl’s heart! Farah Talib Aziz’s collection “Mirabelle” consisted of flowy silhouettes with the perfect juxtaposition of embellishments, prints and textures! The models accessorized their staple FTA looks with hats and jute baskets, accompanied with flowers. The pieces had rich embellishments, from pearls to Swarovski crystals. The showstoppers that simply warmed our hearts were Syra Shahroze and her mother-in-law, Safina Behroze as they walked the ramp with just enough love to pass around to the crowd! A finale that simply made us swoon!
Gulabo by Maheen Khan
Gulabo is a brand that needs very little introduction. Started and nurtured by perennial fashion designer, Maheen Khan, this show-opener held an array of chic and stylish pieces. The collection, “Liberation”, was true to its name. The pieces carried messages within them, from awareness about leaving the Earth a healthy and fresh planet to the #MeinBhi movement which liberated women all over who struggled with abuse and harassment. An ode to the strength and beauty of women!
Yasmeen Jiwa
This same collection by Yasmeen Jiwa mesmerized audiences in Paris Fashion Week, and it most certainly mesmerized all of us in her home-town! Qous-E-Qazah consisted of pieces that were glamorous and powerful. The color palette featured rich reds along with silver grays and blue hues. Each outfit was finished with mirror thread and sequence embroidery. Leave it to Yasmeen Jiwa to construct a mystical world for all of us to vacation in!
