Project Runway: #FPW15 Day 1- Shehla Chatoor, Ayesha Farook Hashwani, Tena Durrani, Sana Safinaz
Despite the fact that for the first time this year Fashion Pakistan Week encompassed a very loosely themed event, allowing for luxury showcases that fell under the joint umbrella of both pret and couture that couldn’t have been easy from a designer’s perspective, the audience welcomed the creative diversity that gave them a lot more to enjoy and absorb. Shehla Chatoor opened FPW15 with the hugely anticipated ‘All the Raj’ collection to commemorate her 20 years in fashion. This was also the first time Shehla showcased her bridals on any ramp and the popular opinion was, it was well worth the wait. The couturier attracts clients from far and wide for her indelible opulence and her showcase not only delivered the same immaculate ornamental couture quality but also infused ramp worthy imaginative and high fashion elements which is not an easy thing to do in eastern bridals. The dhoti pants and skirts were our favorite and the leather weave on the lehnga, inspired. The signature feminine sensuality that is her defining mark was the crowning jewel in her modern vintage collection.

Ayesha Farook Hashwani is all about the fashion in its humblest form and we love that about her. Free of any outside influences on her work she has always pushed her own boundaries and followed her incredibly distinctive individual style that shines through on the ramp. While this showcase did not have all the detailed embellishments and extreme glamour quotient of her last FPW collection, it definitely succeeded on trying something new and stepping out of her comfort zone. While more print-centric, Ayesha manipulated some beautiful silhouettes with fabric folding techniques and architectural silhouettes. The handmade belts and jacquard quilted coat along with the bronzed and chocolate skirt ensemble and what Ayesha herself wore were impeccably on point.

With Tena Durrani we switched back into wedding couture mode with an array of beautifuls formals each of which one could easily imagine wearing for this festive winter and coming spring season. Staying strong to her forte was a smart decision by the designer who showcased once again her mastery of color and craft for the modern eastern bride. A world of detail spoke in each creation that was made of of voluminous lehngas etched with hand work in fine gold and swarovski. Waistlines and bodices were accentuated with heavy yet soft layering at the bottoms for a lovely feminine elegance. Colors alternated between gentle and rich such as burgundy velvets on ivory gold, stunning olive greens, watermelons and reds with gold. The dupattas were heavenly in sheer nets with spatter ‘jaal’ detailing and full borders. All in all just what you’re looking to wear for year round weddings.

Sana Safinaz having just showcased their bridals at PLBW’15 opted for a vivacious luxury pret collection that honestly speaking we fell head over heels in love with. It was in all senses a complete fashion experience from the concept to the diversity in cuts, the arrangement of print and silhouette was especially flawless. For high fashion pret this design house is winning hands down for what we feel is an approach that comes all to naturally to the brand. The edgy sexy yet laid back glamour, polished finesse of design are all things that appear unforced in all their collections. We adored the beautiful crushed pleated fabric flow of the dresses, impeccably tailored coats, the burnt metallic textured motifs on the pants were a knock out and styled all together by a genius. The dark amalgamation of colors and 3D appliqué and cut work textures oozed winter evening luxe. The whole thing came together with statement accessories by Outhouse courtesy Sana Safinaz team member Sana Hafeez Sheikh.
