Shutterbug: Ali Xeeshan’s ‘Tuffan’ Collection for #PLBW15 PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week!
Ali Xeeshan’s wild fashion energy was dearly missed last year and we’re thrilled to have him back at the PLBW platform this September! Like everything associated with the designer, there will be crazy elements and out of the box theatrics along with great fashion which makes him a joy to witness on the ramp. Here’s a quick sneak peek into the ‘Tuffan’ bridal collection with insights from Ali on the details!
Q-1 Inspiration behind your collection for PLBW15, the thought process that led to it?
My collection is titled “Tufaan”. It depicts a storm thundering through a quiet desert. Once the storm has subsided, the desert transforms its character and mirages into a different form. This soul touching form morphs into a character with a unique nature forming the basis of my inspiration for this collection. Our garments are like characters that speak to you. Our design philosophy is to create an edgy, bold and unusual flavor with intricate and elaborate detailing that reverberates the Pakistani essence in a contemporary silhouette.
Q-2 About the color palette, fabrics, techniques used?
I have used a new technique called laser cutting, using leather in bridal wear for the first time. I have used brilliant, lustrous gold roses on my fabric to achieve this fine effect. In Tufaan, we have revived traditional block printing but with an edgy, contemporary twist and used rich Pakistani embroidery like Tilla and Succha work that use fine gold wires. The color palette for Tufaan includes all earthy tones with reference to the desert which later turn into different shades of gold as the sun sets over the desert. It makes for an interesting combination of warm tones and a fiery sky. We have also included menswear with the same inspiration.
Q-3 Bridal trends that’ll be HUGE this season?
Volume at the upper torso and a straighter lower torso is the trend look for 2015/16, with lots of upper play to the fabric and the illusion of a slimmer waist line.
What does showcasing at PLBW mean to you?
PFDC has been a very special platform for me as my debut was also at a PFDC show. Participating in PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week has helped me streamline my design process from mood boards to runway silhouettes to working on deadlines and so forth. It’s a very prestigious platform and this keeps you on your toes, performing at your optimal levels and giving a hundred percent.
