Interview: All You Want to Know About ‘Alisha for Mina Hasan’ !

By now you must be aware that the Mina Hasan luxury design house has a new Creative Design member so to speak. Mina’s talented young daughter Alisha Hashmi Mandviwala who has till now stayed relatively behind the scenes, managing the label’s marketing, development and  styling for campaigns, has just stepped into the spotlight with her own luxury line – Alisha for Mina Hasan. The debut capsule is already in stores however we bring you the exclusive inside story from Alisha about her plans for the venture and how it shapes the legacy of Mina Hasan. Additionally view the complete behind the scenes construction and design elements from inside their workshop! For a debut capsule Alisha already shows incredible promise as an independent mind. Another first for the burgeoning label is their upcoming Eid Lawn in collaboration with Shariq  Textiles. While the campaign is still under wraps we bring you the first exclusive sneak peeks at the prints to get a taste of whats coming up!

What makes ‘Alisha for Mina Hasan’ different from Mina Hasan essentially? In what ways is it similar?

I think the aesthetic is quite similar in many ways- it retains the glamour quotient and elegance of the Mina Hasan brand but it experiments more with silhouettes and unusual combinations. It Is definitely less bling and uses a more restricted color palette.

What is the identity of ‘A for M’ who does it cater to?

It is quite understated glamour and is for more trend- seeking individuals.

Describe your working chemistry?

I am a much calmer and organized person and my mum is more aggressive and way better at getting things done with a time crunch. We discuss designs a lot and bounce ideas off each other, so I think the lines between A for M and MH can get quite blurry. Yet, both have a distinct look.

What do you disagree on most?

We don’t have any one thing that we disagree on- but Mina has a last minute way of working which gives me anxiety!

Going forward what can we expect from ‘A for M’?

I hope to do 2 collections a year and to keep evolving according to seasons and trends. Mina Hasan is a classic brand and it should stay true to that.

Tell us about the upcoming lawn for Mina Hasan?

Our lawn, comes out in Ramadan is in collaboration with Shariq Textiles. It is an eclectic collection that is quite contemporary and feminine. Staying true to the purpose of lawn, we have designed it with a diverse clientele in mind. I think there is something in it for everyone.
