Project Runway: Style360 Pantene Bridal Couture Week 2013 Day 1 Moments

Pantene Bridal Couture Week 2013 Winter edition kicked off in Lahore at the Faletti Hotel on 29th Nov and showcasing on Day 1 were prominent names including Nida Azwer, Ayesha Somaya, Deepak Perwani, Arsalan Iqbal, and Fahad Hussayn among others. Nida Azwer’s Hyderabad collection was an absolute delight to witness with its elegantly draped dupattas in the traditional style taken in from the back and rich gold gota cutwork cholis and borders. Nida played with multiple luxury textures employing authentic Indian hand loom tissue and net fabrics with silk woven brocade that made the lehngas dance. Miniature embroideries and dabka kora embellished details filled layers in a manner that was rich without being overly fussy. Our favorite was the elephant hand embroidered lehnga with the chocolate and gold choli dupatta. View the complete collective on the Nida Azwer Profile Page.

Deepak Perwani’s Iznik Collection captured audiences from start to finish with its powerful portrayal of modern poetry in motion inspired by Central Asia and the glorious Ottoman empire. The ensembles centered around magnificently detailed tapestry dupattas with velvet and screen print finishings. Strong layering took shape in the form of long capes, pleated fabrics, and charismatic saris that brought together elements of digital print, brocade, and embellishment while doing justice to each one. The wonderful Maheen Khan walked as showstopper for Iznik by Deepak Perwani. View more collection images on the Deepak Perwani Profile Page.

Ayesha Somaya brought a glittering showcase with the antique art of ‘Kalamkaar’ as their muse. Intricate thread works depicting the tree of life, bird and floral motifs on capes, lehngas and voluminous dupattas flowed together in the midst of a sea of shimmering kaamdani encrusted in modern patterns. Ayesha Somaya always manage to stay true to an aesthetic balance of contemporary and classic therefore flawless draped silhouettes, short kurtas, and  graceful ghaghras were all part and parcel of their delicately crafted ‘Kalamkaar’ Collection. Arsalan Iqbal had deeply aroused our curiosity when he first announced his ‘Blood & Gold’ collective for BCW 2013. The display involved artistic and thought provoking silhouettes that are the forte of the House of Arsalan Iqbal. Bridals invoked edgy, modern elements with traditional cuts being subtly reformed  to make a statement such as the wrapped dupatta choli and the brocade coat over a silk black dress. The quality of tailoring made the experimental technique work even as the designers bravely took a risk. The menswear was surprisingly more in tune with traditional features although some stunning tuxedo velvet jackets with rich gold detailing were also present. This collective was an ode to the constant creativity and challenge seeking attribute of the House of Arsalan Iqbal. View more collection images on the Arsalan Iqbal Profile Page.
