What’s in Her Closet?: Sanam Chaudhri; An Architect of Style! (Part I)

Today our fashion industry is brimming with designers and new artists stepping in everyday while the older ones continue to reinvent and rejuvenate. While most of them do very well in the ‘business of fashion’ category, only a handful can be deemed as having ‘style’, a word that is too often confused with fashion. Sanam Chaudhri is definitely one who makes the dual sartorial cut. The new Chair of the Fashion Pakistan Council shared with Secret Closet some of her current most prized wardrobe pieces and it was no surprise that accessories made up the chunk of her selection. Sanam is rarely spotted without a pair of statement shoes or an eye catching piece of jewelry that set her apart in a crowd even if she’s just sporting a basic button down shirt. Therefore we bring you a two part style break down starting with her fun, young, edgy and confidence inspiring accessories.

Feeling dizzy while staring at the piles or rather very well organized racks of  statement accessories acquired everywhere from street markets in the Far East to boutiques in London, we asked Sanam to pair the jewelry to the shoes the way she would wear them. As wonderfully tall as she is, the shoeholic loves her never ending heels! Sanam loves to dress up conventional basics with unconventional accessories that captures the beautiful balance between opposing forces. She has fun with trinkets and scarves that add a splash of color but never ever seem over the top!

The same sort of bold but controlled aesthetic comes across in her designs as well. Sanam describes her taste as not so much driven by print as by structure and architectural viability. Perhaps this trait may be attributed to her years spent in interior design under the leadership of the architectural prowess of Naheed Mashooqullah. Having worked for a textile mill and specializing in the subject, it is the unique mash of experiences as well as something within her that shape her distinct eye for style. A certain famous young stylist is a huge fan of her choices as well, Maha Burney Creative Art Director at NFK and Stylist claims “We always love the exact same things!”
