We realize we haven’t done this category in a while now and so here is a color that we have been meaning to bring focus to, especially for the frosty season, but really this is a year round shade that we love mainly because it is understated, easy on the eyes, peaceful and most importantly hasn’t been over done just yet. A common factor with any hue no matter how beautiful, is the nature of its short lived appeal. Sadly once you start seeing it too much, the charm vaporizes in an instant. For example the beautiful emerald jewel shade has been a target of this tragic logic. Only classic neutral shades like whites, black, gold, and beiges have escaped this phenomena. However the good news is these colors always come back once given a chance to be missed.

Currently we are obsessing over the elusive olive shade that can be brightened as well as dulled depending on one’s mood. One designer in particular who we found to be as infatuated with it as us is Misha Lakhani. The PFDC and FPW runways were filled with her elegant olive bridals and fusion separates and we spotted Misha as well as more recently her muse Mashal Chaudhry modeling her own delicate wedding formals. The color is even more striking when garnished with antique gold detailing and goes just as well with both black and white thread work. Aside from wedding couture, Misha infuses a richer version of the shade in her luxury silk maxi layered dresses and pleated pants as well and was spotted wearing the dress at the PFDC Loreal Paris Bridal Week 2012.

It is a great shade to sport the monochrome trend as spotted on Maheen Karim who paired a relaxed olive sheer woven top with classic blue jeans and a striking chunky ring to match at the Fashion Compassion launch.
Nabila was spotted in a monochrome olive ZARA tunic with wide legged black pants at the Lals Patisserie launch looking her graceful self.
Anushka Sharma also opted for an egg sleeved silk olive top and black skinnys at the JTHJ Press Conference appearing simple yet standing out. The silken olive was beautifully incorporated into Shehla Chatoor’s signature Chinoiserie prints as well at FPW 4 2012 and added pop to the oriental prints against the velvety black silk.

Finally the shade suits our subcontinental skin tone so perfectly! Have we convinced you to add something olive to your wardrobe yet?
