The best trends are the ones that never go out of style and Chikankari makes it to the top of the list for timeless elegance. Originally invented in Lucknow, India during the Mughal period and inspired by the Persians; the phrase ‘Chikan’ is derived from the Persian word ‘chakin’ that translates to a cloth wrought with needle work. Legend has it that the Mughal Emperor Jehangir’s beautiful Persian consort Mehrunnisa who went on to become Empress Nur Jahan introduced the embroidery to the region back in the 16th century. After the fall of the empire the artisans scattered and to this day Lucknow has sustained unrivaled supremacy in producing the finest Chikankari in India.
