Carte Blanche; a French phrase meaning ‘blank ticket’ or the ‘unrestricted power to act on one’s own discretion’ is the title of Nadia Ellahi’s latest fusion shoot. You might have heard the phrase in the news as in “…giving US forces carte blanche to conduct operations on Pakistani territory”. Although not as appealing in the political context, we love Nadia’s spin on it! Her collection is a vibrant lesson in freedom of expression and creativity. Nadia who has always enjoyed playing with drapery and silhouettes in her creations has beautifully blended three separate style philosophies here; layering, color blocking, and screen print. Oh and she has also used metallic studs, very much on our trends to keep list!
The shoot was cleverly styled and photographed by Maha Burney and Nadir Firoz Khan who were also nominated for Lux Style Awards, “Best Emerging Talent in Fashion” this year. One can note the edgy, high fashion elements that are characteristic of their creative stylings. We especially loved the shoes and chunky accessories here. The makeup and hair was courtesy of our Secret Closet expert Natasha and Sabrina Khalid of Natasha Salon. If you read our last blog you know Natasha is loving the blue eye makeup these days. Here we have some colorful eyes that make the clothes pop against the pretty, shaded backdrop. The hair has been pulled up to emphasize the angles and high neck-lines at the same time adding height and volume for a sleek, fresh look.
Did you notice the uneven, soft hemlines in the layering? This was our favourite part, can’t decide whether to go long or short then mix it up and have some fun. The varying lengths and falling cowl neck adds grace and femininity don’t you think?
