The newly appointed Fashion Pakistan Council spearheaded by designer Sanam Chaudhri as Chairperson and Wardha Saleem as CEO, held a PressConference for Media and the fashion fraternity at large at Cafe Flo to announce its calendar of events for the upcoming year. In an eloquent speech, Sanam Chaudhri outlined the new Council's goals pertaining to preserving and growing indigenous artisanship, assisting emerging designers and graduates in entering the retail sector and providing them with local and international exposure, and attracting buyers. She spoke optimistically about seeking and creating opportunities and synergies encompassing export and regional trade for bringing the Pakistan fashion industry to the forefront, and providing a balanced platform where the voice of every segment of the industry is heard through building bridges with other councils and involving industry representatives.

To this end CEO Wardha Saleem announced the council'scalendar of events starting with an exciting Fashion's Night Out (FNO) in December, followed by Spring/Summer 2014 FPW6 in February, a GENEX Trunk Show of collections presented by fresh Graduates under the mentorship of senior designers, and finally the A/W2014 FPW7 in September. The CEO also spoke about a Fashion Expo in collaboration with FPCCI that would be a valuable instrument in giving emerging designers due exposure.

We have high hopes for the group that is entirely made of new energy and a positive attitude. Each of them in their relatively short career spans has unique and profound achievements to their name. The Council also announced its Advisory Committee made up of experienced and business savvy names; Zahir Rahimtoola -CEO Labels, Salim Chatoor, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of successful commercial retails such as Threads & Motifs and Renaissance, Photographer and founder of his own label; Tapu Javeri , Taymur Paracha "“CEO of Gulabo, Shahnaz Ismail "“ reputed Dean of IVS, Feri Rawanian, Iqbal Teli and members of the previous council; Deepak Perwani, and Shamaeel Ansari. With such a large pool of talent from all corners of the industry covering eCommerce to textile exports, the Council is in an excellent position for lift off.

Zahir Rahimtoola delivered the importance of emphasizing the business of fashion particularly the exponential growth in international eCommerce. He stressed the significance of Pakistan joining the global trend to move forward in the right direction.

Secretary Maheen Karim was missed at the Press Conference due to a back injury. Shehla Chatoor, Maheen Khan, Mohsin Sayeed, Raheel Rao, Zurain Imam, and many more industry veterans came to support the FP Council.
