PFDC (Pakistan Fashion Design Council) was established in September 2006 with an initial membership of 30 designers, and now comprises more than 50 designers from all over Pakistan. The Council consists of 22 board members – of these, six are corporate members and the rest are designers. Mr. Avais Mazhar is Chairperson of PFDC, while the Chairperson of the Executive Committee is Mrs. Sehyr Saigol & CEO Mr Saad Ali.
In line with its ideology, PFDC endeavors to accord corporate status to the business of fashion, and to provide a platform for young and mainstream designers. Another important aim of the council is to institutionalize the fashion industry in order to create and maintain industry standards in conformity with global market standards. Developing a culture of professionalism within the fashion industry will go a long way towards benefitting the nation’s economy.
PFDC also continues to strive towards the standardization of the prêt a porter industry and to this end, it runs three multi-label retail boutiques in Lahore, Karachi and most recently New Delhi. Though embryonic by international standards, local fashion has grown tremendously in the last decade and more. As it continues to develop, it becomes imperative to institutionalise the business of fashion. PFDC is an organisation that is working towards bringing talent and creativity under one umbrella.
It has laid out a comprehensive plan for the future which includes taking steps to establish a Fashion Week, standardize the prêt a porter industry, work closely with textile mills in Pakistan to develop fabric and manufacture value added garments.
